Bimatoprost acts on receptors in the hair follicle to stimulate growth.
You will start to see a gradual increase in the thickness and length of your eyelashes within the first few weeks. Full results are seen at 16 weeks.
The following side effects are reported most frequently by around 4 out of 100 users:
Eye irritation and itching
Redness of the eye or eye lid
Dry eye
A much rarer side effect is an increase in brown pigmentation within the coloured part of the eye, this may be permanent, or darkening of the eyelid skin which my be reversible upon stopping the treatment. The teatment is intended for use on the skin at the base of the upper eyelids only. Application to the lower lid increases the chances of side effects such as hyperpigmentation.
If you have a history of abnormal eye pressures or glaucoma you should only use Bimatoprost under the supervision of an ophthamlologist. If you are having eye pressure checks or planned eye surgery you should inform the clinician.
Contact lenses should be removed before applying treatment an can be reinserted 30 minutes after application.
Your eyelashes will revert back to their original appearance after a period of weeks to months.
You will be provided with applicators and will be shown how to apply the treatment to the base of your upper lashes. The treatment is once daily.
